At the end of September me and George spent a week in the beautiful country of Austria. We travel somewhere new on the same week every year in celebration of our anniversary. For me there’s no better excuse to go on an adventure than when it marks another year with my best friend. In my opinion we picked the very best date to get married as this time of year means the changing of seasons which I find the most beautiful. Hello Autumn!
Austria was incredibly pretty and I took a lot of photos, so I decided to split this photo diary into two posts. The first is from our time in Vienna and Zell am See, and the second will be Hallstatt and Salzburg. I only used my phone camera on this trip as we didn’t want to carry the big SLR around so although the images aren’t perfect I’m actually pretty happy with how they came out. I will also list the places where we ate, or as many as I can remember, with links where possible.
Vienna
Our first destination was the gorgeous city of Vienna. We stayed in this fantastic studio apartment from Airbnb and it was exactly what we needed. The place was really affordable yet spacious and close to the city centre. I couldn’t recommend this studio enough! It was definitely the best Airbnb we have stayed in so far.
The city was small enough to cover on foot and we happily spent most of our time strolling around all the famous landmarks and cobbled streets, taking in all the sights and culture while enjoying plenty of coffee and cake along the way.
Where we ate:
Vapiano | The most delicious Italian food, freshly cooked to your taste right in front of you.
Cafe Central | A very famous and beautiful cafe where we had a tasty Viennese breakfast.
Aida | A cute Viennese cafe with far too many delicious cakes and coffees to choose from.
Ristorante da Gennaro | Another Italian restaurant. There was a lot of them in Austria which was great since it’s our favourite!
Zell am See
Our visit to Zell am See was absolutely breathtaking and the photos definitely don’t do it justice. We would love to go back for a ski trip someday. We used Airbnb again and stayed in this apartment near Piesendorf. The room was lovely and spacious, and within very easy reach of Zell am See.
These photos were taken at the top of Schmittenhohe. We rode the cable car to the top of the mountain and spent the afternoon hiking all the way back down, soaking up these incredible views.
Where we ate:
Kennidi Cafe & Bistro | This was actually in nearby Kaprun but was close to our apartment. We had great pizzas here!
Stadt Cafe | Some great traditional Viennese breakfast options and tasty coffee.
Beach Club | Here we enjoyed some of the best burgers we’ve ever eaten!
Deins & Meins | We treated ourselves to steak and cocktails here on our anniversary and it didn’t disappoint.
Whilst in Zell am See we took a day trip to Hallstatt before continuing to Salzburg, so stay tuned for part two of our trip which I’ll be sharing shortly.
