We arrived at our destination as the sun was beginning to set late on Wednesday afternoon and spent the rest of the evening relaxing in our hotel room, as well as visiting a Mexican restaurant just along the road for dinner. We stayed at the Comfort Inn & Suites Sequoia Kings Canyon in Three Rivers, a very short drive from the national park. This was another basic but very comfortable hotel and in the perfect location.

Thursday 1st October 2015

On Thursday morning we head into the national park towards the Giant Forest, to wander among the towering sequoia and redwood trees. Everywhere we turned we were surrounded by natural beauty and took a fair few photos along the way.

It was difficult to capture the size of the trees on camera, so hopefully this gives you a better idea of scale.

I had seen these tunnel logs on Pinterest before we left home but had no idea where they would be. As you can imagine I was pretty damn excited when we came across the road sign for them!

Sequoia National Park certainly did not disappoint. We both love trees and forests anyway but this was on a completely different level to anywhere we had been before. In such a vast open space we loved how easy it was to wander off into our own little world, away from all the other visitors. We did walk the Sherman Tree Trail, which luckily wasn’t too busy, but after continuing just a little further into the forest, there was no one else to be seen.

After a day of exploring the park, we drove back to the hotel and later visited another nearby restaurant where we ate dinner outdoors, surrounded by beautiful mountains.

Friday 2nd October 2015

We left Sequoia on Friday morning and stopped off at a mall in Fresno for some shopping and a big lunch. In the afternoon we continued our journey towards Mammoth Lakes where we had the most beautiful drive through Yosemite and along highway 120. We resisted getting out of the car to explore since we would be coming back to Yosemite later in the week, but it was the most beautiful journey we had taken so far. The drive was long, so we arrived at Mammoth Mountain late that night.
